Camel Rock took place this year on the 27th of August, it was the third music festival held on St. Marys in successive years attracting huge crowds, great music and a really good atmosphere. Camel Rock, takes place each year at Porth Helick on St. Marys next to the large granite rock called the loaded camel, or ‘Camel Rock’. Top Bands made the journey to the islands from all over the country, as well as the islands own grown talents making appearances in one-hour sessions from midday until midnight. The event is organised each year by John Bird and Paul Lewis who came up with the idea of a music festival in order to raise money for charity and made it happen with the help of many other organising islanders. This years event was massive and exceeded all expectations, many of the bands proved very popular and the local ‘Steam band? finished off the festival with a grand finale which left the crowd baying for more. The event has been a popular fixture in the summer calendar for the previous few years and with performances like this one, the event is surely only able to grow in status and become even more popular to a variety of age groups. Traditionally the evening is rounded off with an auction of merchandise from the bands which has been known in one example of a hat, to reach ?400! The Police reported no incidences and the drunken good humour prevailed throughout! The event was so successful that next years festival is already in the process of being planned and is set to be even better which will truly a sight to behold!
