The Isles of Scilly maintained it’s winning form of GCSE results when, on Thursday, the Year of 2000 students of the school picked up those winning papers. The national average was, again, well and truely put in it’s place when the 13 students put the county’s education results above any other county.

The 59% A-star-to-C pass rate national average was beaten by nearly 20%, when the Islands’ average became 77% A-star-to-C pass rate, even better than last year.

At 10:50 the head of science, Mr Rigby, and ex-headteacher Mr Matley-Jones, handed out the A5 brown envelopes containing the students’ futures.

The best result was 7 x A-stars and 4 x As, achieved by a local girl.

All of the students will be using their results to go to college, taking GNVQs, NVQs and A-levels amoungst the other qualifications.

Geography results were lower than anticipated. It appeared that the same trend occurred for the entire SEG Geography board. Nothing was done to correct it.
