Mid-afternoon bought rough weather. One of the yachts bouncing around in the Atlantic 10 miles off the islands threw a female crew member around the deck. She fell, causing injuries to her spine. Air and sea rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose air-lifted the injured yachtswoman after re-fueling on the islands’ airport. Evening: Later, at around 5:45 pm, the lifeboat launched and set out with the RNAS Culdrose Seaking Helicopter to rescue four Belgium people who had abondoned their sinking yacht. The helicopter went to pick up the Belgians 15 miles off Bishop Rock from their liferaft, whilst the lifeboat went out to see if it could tow the yacht in before running into further trouble. The lifeboat returned to port at 11 pm without finding their yacht, the ‘Carrieres du Hainault’. The CdH is still floating out in the ocean, and could be a hazard to shipping.
