Local gig, the Slippen, formerly the ‘Bernice? of St Agnes, has been asked over to the US to be an exhibit, Kevin Sherris tells us.

Artefact are being gathered together as a part of the T W Lawson centenary celebrations (100 years after it’s launch).
The Slippen played a vital role in the rescue of many seamen from the T W Lawson when it sank in Scillonian waters in December, 1907.

As a result of the rescue, many American lives were saved. For this, the rescue crew from St Agnes were awarded the Golden Eagle award by the US for their courage and bravery.
The proceeds from the Golden Eagle Award went towards building the Golden Eagle gig.
Currently Peter Martin, the most recent Scillonian gig builder, is renovating the Slippen.
The Isles of Scilly Gig Committee will then consider lending the gig to the US for six months to be a part of the T W Lawson’s Museum.
