A new organisation named Connexions, recently launched by the government in replacement to the Careers service offered to students at secondary, further and higher education, offered the chance to sail on a Trinity Sailing ship as a part of the Tall Ships Race this summer.
Offered mainly to Year 11?s at the Secondary School, several applied. They were to go in two groups - one earlier this month, and one at the end.
The first group went to Falmouth to start the leg of their voyage. Unfortunately, circumstances did not allow them to continue with their trip.
Problems with watch and an engine failure meant that their trip would fall short of their expected destination in Norway.
The offer to sail to Dover was declined, and the students left without having sailed out of Falmouth Harbour.
The second group to sail will go from Bergen in Norway to Esbjerg in Denmark. They will leave around 28 July.
