HMS Colossus was rediscovered earlier this year, with an amazing find of a lifesize statue of a warrior.

The discovery was so significant that a protection order has been put on the wreck, placed by the Minister of State for the Arts, Baroness Blackstone, was made on 6 July 2001.

The Colossus sank on a return journey from the Battle of the Nile, bringing home the sick and injured.

Lord Hamilton’s Etruscan vases were the most interesting survivors from 1798 when the wreck was rediscovered in 1974.
