This years triangle was won by the hosts despite an enthralling final act of defiance by St. Agnes.

This years event was staged on Tresco in sunny conditions despite mist threatening in the morning. The first game began at 10:30 between Tresco and St. Martins. Tresco went in to bat first and scored an average 98 which was made to look better due to adverse early morning weather conditions. In reply, the St. Martins innings started with a extraordinary mistake when their batsman at the non strikers end was run out on the first ball. In effect this meant that he was out without even facing a ball! After that, St. Martins struggled to find the depth that they have shown before and despite a late surge of runs, they were defeated. This meant that St. Martins would play St. Agnes in the next match.

It was clear why St. Martins elected to bat first when their top batsman Steve Hemstalk knocked up 62 runs in 42 balls. The St. Agnes pace attack just couldn’t seem to indent the top order. St. Agnes were set a target of 122 to win. St. Agnes were outclassed and were not allowed to get into the swing of things by the precision St. Martins bowling. A late unbeaten 39 by the Agnes captain Sam Hicks couldn’t even record St. Agnes a win, they fell 13 runs short after their 20 overs.

This result combined with unusual tournament structure meant that the next game was St. Agnes Vs Tresco; if St. Agnes won, there would be a three way tie, if Tresco won, they would become only the second team ever to retain the trophy. This led to the unlikely predicament of St. Martins cheering for St. Agnes and bolstering their already prolific support! The St. Agnes team were fired up for the match and were unlucky to record a score of just 88. Andrew Lawson was the pick of the Tresco bowlers as he took three wickets for 13 runs in his four over spell. The St. Agnes top scorer was Tristan Hick with 21. The Tresco side seemed to be a bit stunned by the St. Agnes determination and they lost early wickets to Pat Mcarthy. Their captain sured up the side through and St. Agnes could find a way to beat him. It was ultimately a captains innings as he led the team to victory with 39 not out.

In the spirit of the game, a good tie was had by all and everyone was made to feel welcome by some excellent catering overseen by Anne Oyler.
