Blackberries in Scilly are usually associated with the Autumn but this year, some berries were seen ripe as early as mid August. Plant and nature enthusiasts have said that the crop may have been brought forward by several weeks due to the very wet few days that occurred during August.

Local youngsters have capitalised on this fruity anomaly and have been out in force collecting them for sale to local businesses. The crop this year also seems to be far more widespread than previous years, every hedgerow seems to be red with the ripening fruit.
