Locals on St. Agnes have displayed concern over a family of Swallows who have only just hatched chicks. Swallows are usually born in June through until July so that they can enjoy the warmth of the summer months in their first vital weeks.

The particular location on St. Agnes has been withheld because publicity would bring attention to the nest and may scare the parents away. It usually takes about 5 weeks from when the Swallows are born until they develop their flying ability.

As the nest is approached, the parent stands guard over the youngsters when it would usually have flown off, alarmed. It is feared that the usual Autumn weather may set in and the late arrivals could suffer the consequences.

Swallows are one of the most common of birds in Scilly as they usually nest in sheds and barns.
