The Isles of Scilly Secondary School, IOSSSc, has, once again, been renovated during the summer. However, this summer, refurbishments have been delayed, so the new school year will start a day late for local kids.

bSurplace Space Renovations/b

A poor report by OFSTED and the poor conditions left in the school since the government’s “surplus space” rules were inflicted on the school three years ago, have left the school in need of improvement. Bascially, the government only funds a certain amount of space per pupil, and the Isles of Scilly has little over 100 pupils at secondary age, so the extra space left was removed from the school. The extra space was turned into a local youth club, gym, and the drama room which is still required for exams and drama for the school. Playgroup was also moved to the primary school.

The last four summers have seen builders and movers inside the school.
