Islanders have taken to the spirit of the occasion as lavishly as ever, many opting for fancy dress to see in the year 2002.
Many pubs on the Islands opted for a fancy dress party, including the ever-popular event at the Scillonian club. There were, as ever, some fantastic costumes that must have looked hilarious as they walked through the wind battered streets of St. Marys. It really wasn’t the night for skimpy costumes though, as the clear skies ensured bitterly cold temperature, emphasized by the force 6 wind.
The Barry White Foundation played at the Old Town Inn, which was a popular event preferred by many over the more traditional parties in Hugh town. Partygoers on the off Islands also enjoyed parties at their respective watering holes.
The clear skies, for those who could bear being outside, presented a spectacular halo effect around the moon in the early hours.
