Isles of Scilly LEA is finally recognised as having unique circumstances. OFSTEDās chief inspector of schools, Mike Tomlinson, is concerned that the LEA does not support the schools effectively.
(OFSTED) praises the way the council deals with the youngest children, special needs, admissions, behaviour and attendance and social exclusion.

But it says performance is inadequate on information technology, support for schools that are causing concern, support for school managers, advice on value for money, financial services and personnel management.
Badly needed funding from the government could be a result of the report.
The Island schools need extra funding because they have to serve a primary school on all but one island, most of which have a small catchment area and small amount of students. As governmental funding comes in pounds per student, these primary schools are being short-funded. The secondary school has similar problems, though it serves all the islands, it only has ~100 students to keep itself funded.
