Scilly News has just launched a new feature for the site, aimed at helping students at the Island’s Secondary School, prepare for college life on the mainland.

For many years, the Students in the Islands have lacked the level of help required to make this massive leap in their education. Students, in the past, have been let down by colleges promising a smooth integration while Islander’s situations actually received no distinction from those of other students. Realising that it is a big leap, having to move away from home, is one of the key aspects which the site addresses.

The section is aimed at the relatively small number of students who are in the higher years at the secondary school and are currently contemplating college life. Sections of the site try to include all aspects of college life, from accommodation worries to social lives, with advice from students who have already gone through, or are going through the same process. This is the first web site aimed specifically at addressing the unique problems which IIsland/I students face when they move to the mainland.

The crystal clear waters which make up substantial parts of the graphics for the site emphasize clarity. The Island’s close connection with the sea is shown up with ‘wave style’ borders. The site tries to address problems from a students perspective and make the transition just that little bit easier.
