On 26 March SN reported that a team Britain were to attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Newfoundland to Falmouth via Scilly.

They started their attempt on 11 June, but unfortunately they had to terminate their attempt on 2 July. They were making good time, on target for breaking the 55-day record by 10 days.

Their rudder was damaged in a storm half-way across the Atlantic on 30 June. It broke on 2 July after strain from the water.

The previous record from west to east was made in 1896 by two Frenchmen, Harbo and Samuelson, in the ‘Richard K Fox’. This record was set from North America to Scilly. An official watersports body moved the finishing line to Falmouth recently.

The boat was built by Pete Goss, who had similar success earlier in the year with Team Philips (pictured).
