The following week will see a lot of sailing around the Islands.

Domestic sailing: ‘Which Dr’ and Germany’s ‘Orion’ were two of the yachts moored in St Mary’s habour on Saturday. They are two of 25 yachts moored in the habour alone. Some of many that visit the Islands each summer, mooring in different places around the Islands.

Competative sailing: Sunday will see the Round the Island Race, where many sailing boats will race around St Mary’s. They will start at the Quay and finish off St Agnes. Most sailors and spectators will then continue into the Turk’s Head, ?the most south-westerly pub in the United Kingdom’.

Tall Ships sailing: From the 10 August yachts will be passing between Scilly and Brest, France on the last leg of the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Race 2002.

Some boats should be seen from the south of the Islands, especially the larger ships.

The Tall Ships Race 2002 started in Alicante in the Mediterrenean on 5 July, with the celebrations lasting 3 days. They then passed around the coast of Spain to Malaga, then La Coruna and to Santador. They will be on their way from Santandor on 6 August, when they will head for Portsmouth for the final leg this year.
