Richard Larn, local ship-wreck expert who has done work for the Lloyd’s Shipwreck Index, explained the abundance of nappies on the Islands’ shores in early March.
Apparently, the nappies came from a container carried by the MV Sybille, a German-registered veseel. 10 containers had been lost from her cargo when off the Channel Islands during a severe gale. Two containers contained the “wipes”.
Mr Larn commented: “It is interesting to note that Lloyd’s List estimate that at any given moment in time there are some 12,000 cargo containers adrift in the open sea across the world having been lost overboard.”
