Scilly has had hot weather since the thunderstorms and overcast cloud of a week ago. Since, we have had brilliant sun in the afternoons, with mornings and evenings of thick mist, keeping in the heat.

Because of the heatwave that is forecast for the mainland, Saturday is meant to have a record-breakingly high temperature. Scilly may be able to challenge the record with this unusual spell of sun and mist that is making thing very hot and muggy.

The weather has seen flights cancelled in the mornings. This lunchtime, helicopter flights resumed after the morning mist had cleared.

The temperature at lunchtime was 17-22’C. During the afternoon, the temperature was 22-25’C (72-77’F) in the shade, which is very hot for Scilly, which normally keeps cool with it’s sea breezes.

The BBC forecast that there will be overcast weather until Saturday. However, we reckon it is more likely that the mist-and-sun weather will continue until the weekend.
