The successful solarisation of Round Island has led the way for other lighthouses to be environmentally friendly. Now Wolf Rock is following in its footsteps.
The centuries old lighthouse, 21 miles of Scilly is replacing its diesel generators with solar panels. The change in the lighthouse’s fuelling is estimated to save ?55,000 a year.
Trinity House has already converted 380-lighted buoys to solar power operation as well as six light vessels and 15 other lighthouses.
