A fisherman celebrating an end of season party on the islands decided that drugs would ?keep him going’.
David Row, aged 29 from Luxon Drive, Treninnick in Newquay was spotted trying to avoid drug-sniffing dogs on the Scillonian. When police grabbed his bag they discovered ecstasy and cocaine inside.
At West Cornwall Magistrates Court in Truro the skipper pleaded guilty to possessing six ecstasy tablets and 2.7 grams of cocaine on September 26.
Prosecuting Sarah Topham said was arrested on the boat as drugs-sniffing dogs were used to screen passengers leaving the islands.
When Row was interviewed he said that the drugs were for his own use. He said he thought that they would be a ?pick-me-up? to keep him going for the celebrations. The drugs had a street value of around ?165.
Defending, Paul Simon, said that Row was genuinely remorseful and the drugs had been bought on a whim. He added that the defendant was not a regular user and had only taken them about eight times in his life.
Row was fined a total of ?500 and was ordered to pay ?43 costs.
