Scilly’s political boundaries may be on the move. A two day public inquiry was held at County Hall in Truro last week.

Political parties, councils and the wider public have all had the chance to have their say in moving Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly’s parliamentary boundaries.

It’s up to the Boundary Commission to decide how to provide the county with a sixth MP.

The main idea discussed was that the St Ives Constituency boundary should be changed to include the whole of Penwith and the Isles Scilly and the Kerrier wards of Breage and Crowan, Helston North, Helston South and Porthleven and Sithney, but getting rid of the Kerrier wards of Grade-Ruan and Landewednack, Meneage, Mullion, St Keverne and Wendron to the new Camborne and Redruth Constituency.

But not everybody is happy with this idea. Kerrier wants an all new Redruth and Camborne constituency with the Hayle North, South and East wards as well as Gwinear and Gwithian.

Penwith is backing the Kerrier idea which would also see the St Ives constituency (of which Scilly is a part of) absorb Constantine, Gweek, Mawnan, Grade-Ruan, Landewednack, Meneage, Mullion and St Keverne.
