Young people in a Devon village are warning other small communities of the problems that arise from high house prices.
According to the residents of East Portlemouth in South Devon 62% of homes in the village are second homes. That is the highest in the country. Although in Scilly numbers are edging ever closer with over 50% of houses being second homes.
But the knock on effect of the rising house prices is that young people can afford to live in small communities like Scilly and are left with an older generation living there.
According to residents on Scilly there is an 8 year waiting list to be housed. This means that young locals are having to move away from the islands to get housing.
