Dig out your duvets and reaquaint yourself with your hot water bottles because Scilly may be heading for some cold weather. Well cold compared to the usual warm temperatures!
Met Office officials have revealed that Britain will be faced with Arctic conditions this week as a cold front sweeps in. Some areas in the country will be facing temperatures as low as -14C and Scillonians will be wrapping up in wooly socks to face temperatures as low as…wait for it…….2?c.
People might remember the snow that Scilly endured in the 1980?s but back in 1963 Scilly had eight inches of snow.
The great freeze of 1962-63 lasted from Boxing Day until early March. The sea at Eastbourne was reported frozen up to 100ft offshore.
So although it is unlikely that the islands will be covered in a white blanket here are Scilly News’ top tips for keeping warm!
1) Discard your Christmas diet and start eating pasties and cream teas. Digesting food helps to keep you warm!
2) Keep moving around. Even if it’s inside get up off the sofa and keep busy.
3) Put on your thermals. Wear lots of thin layers rather than one or two thick layers.
3)Don’t mix hot water bottles and electric blankets. Use one of the other.
4) Avoid children with snowballs.
