A justice of the peace and former hotelier has been awarded an MBE as part of the new year’s honours list.

Anne Mumford was given the honour for services to the islands.

She said she was “speechless” when she heard.

The Queen hands out awards on advice of ministers. There are around one thousand honours are on the Prime Minister’s list every year.

Ann Mumford ran the St Mary’s Hall hotel for thirty six years. She has also tirelessly raised money for charities such as Cancer Relief and the Health Centre on St Mary’s.
