The MP for the Isles of Scilly has been appointed as Vice Chair of a new group on Lesser Used Languages.
The post was created in Parliament this week. The initiative is headed by the MP for Caernarfon.
Mr George told Scilly News: “I am very pleased and honoured to have been appointed an officer of this important new All Party Group. Not only will it give me an opportunity to promote Cornwall and it’s cultural distinctiveness in the House of Commons and Lords, but it is important that Cornwall can demonstrate that it has both the right and ability to take its place alongside larger Celtic nations which have received Government and international recognition.
“It is important for Cornwall that its language has been specified in the European Charter. This gives Cornwall a status of recognition which means that we can take our place alongside other indigenous minority languages and plan for a better future. For me it is all about celebrating the cultural diversity across the UK.”
