The campaign that has been encouraging police officers to get to know their patch has been a great success in Cornwall.

The idea is to reassure the community and keep a familiar presence in small areas like the Isles of Scilly.

Speaking at the launch of the scheme last May chief superintendent Dave Ellis, commander for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, said: “Our aim is to deliver neighbourhood policing at a local level without losing sight of the bigger picture, which is where the command team will play a vital role.

“There will be noticeable changes to policing in Cornwall but they will not happen overnight. Neighbourhood policing will be introduced incrementally over the next year and will lead to progressive improvements in the visibility and accessibility of police officers.”

Last year there were about 100 neighbourhood beat managers in Cornwall and the islands.
