The world’s top ten women kitesurfers will start their 70 mile record attempt from the islands.
The first ever attempt to kite surf from the Isles to Watergate bay will make it into the Guinness book of records for the largest kite surf crossing.
Cornwall’s Andreya Wharry, is ranked ninth in the world and is leading the international group who will take to the seas in May.
Andreya says the location of the crossing is personal to her ‘This route has never been done before and coming in at Watergate bay was the obvious choice, it’s where I learnt to surf and it’s home to me. I was also the first person to kite surf in the Scillies so this crossing is a natural link between the two?
The girls hopes to raise ?10 000 pounds for Charity including the Sillke Gorldt Foundation which was set up in memory of the German kite surfer killed in an accident in June 2002. Money will also be raised for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
