The Isles of Scilly Bird Group have announced that the work that took place in the autmn has already increased the amount of birds to the Lower Moors on St Mary’s.
The late autumn saw Water Pipits, six Jack Snipe, and far larger numbers of Snipe than usually recorded. Then came the first semi-rarity with a sighting of Pectoral Sandpiper in November.
The main purpose was to improve the area for migrating birds and in particular to lower the island in the centre of the water to create more muddy fringes and therefore creating good feeding habitat.
Work started back in September.
