Islanders were dazzled on Friday night with an amazing spectacle in the sky.

Portland Coastguard have revealed that the received calls from the Isles of Scilly across the coast up to Dorset of lights in the sky.

Most meteors are little bits of dust that quickly burn up in the atmosphere regularly. Most nights you can see a few meteors per hour. But at certain times the rate of meteors that you can see is much higher. These periods are meteor showers.

Because of the lack of artificial light on Scilly islanders often get a clearer view of such sights.
