Rick Barrowman has won the by-election for a St Mary’s councillor.
He got 252 votes, Amanda Martin got 149 votes.
Richard Barrowman, who is the Islands’ veterinary surgeon, moved to St. Mary’s in 2001 with his wife Helen, and his two daughters who attend Five Islands School. He is interested in education and is the Chairman of the Carn Gwaval Base Parent Teacher Association. He hopes to secure a place on the Education Committee when all Council Committees are reappointed in May.
Amanda Martin said she was willing to stand for election again should a vacancy occur
The island saw a 37% turnout.
Returning Officer Philip Hygate made the announcement on the steps of the Town Hall at 2200 on Thursday night.
