Islanders have faced turbulant weather to vote in a turbulant election today.

Council officials are said to be surprised at the amount of people that have turned out despite stormy weather to vote.

The election today is to vote in a St Mary’s councillor after Pat Greenlaw died suddenly last month.

Polls will close at 9pm, then four counting assistants are expected to take about two hours to count the votes.

Phillip Hygate Returning Officer will announce the results on the steps of the Town Hall.

The election is contraversial because 3oo islanders were left off the electoral register this year. This means they can not vote in this election.
