Tresco’s firefighters have had a busy time over the last month. This week alone they have responded to three call outs.

The first came from a house on Tresco where a chimney fire meant 80 gallons of water had to be pumped down.

Firefighter Richard Hobbs told Scilly News: “It was pretty amazing- we put 80 gallons of water down the chimney and only 1 gallon came out of the bottom. That is a very hot fire.”

Next was the call out to Veronica Farm on Bryher where a bonfire became out of control. Tresco’s firefighters were drafted in to help.

Then on Thursday an electrical fire at the timeshare Thatch was reported. Sparks were seen flying 10ft from an electrical box. This was quickly put out and no damage was caused.
