Bryher coastguard were called out for the third time this week on Monday night after visitors out for a walk on Bryher spotted S.O.S written in the sand on Samson and people waving on the beach.

Bryher coastguard immediately set out to rescue the pair but a gig team got there first.

The Men a Vaur were out practising and rowed to Samson to pick the couple up. The Cyclone then took them back to St Mary’s. They had missed their boat after a day out on the island.

Bryher coastguard were part of a five island search on Wednesday for a fishing boat that had lost contact. It later turned up safe and well. The second callout came on Sunday when a tourist spotted a Japanese smoke flare that had washed up on Great Par. It was safely disposed of.

Station Officer for Bryher, Geoff Taylor, told Scilly News: “We have already had more call outs this year than in the whole of last year. I just hope things calm down before the summer.”
