Scilly’s MP has accused the Royal Mail of delivering a second class service following the withdrawal of the Mail Train earlier this year.
Andrew George is urging his constituents to contact him (preferably by post!) to let him know if they have noticed any change to the speed and punctuality of their postal services.
Many constituents have already contacted Mr George concerned that since Royal Mail decided to cease using the rail network to distribute their mail in January the service they have received has deteriorated. Mail is now delivered by road and air.
Mr George told Scilly News: “I and others expressed our strong objections to the withdrawal of the Mail Train and not because we are resistant to change nor because we objected to the more environmentally damaging consequences of the decision.
“Some of my constituents are complaining that they don’t receive their mail until well into the afternoon making it extremely difficult for many to reply by return of post. This is particularly damaging to businesses which depend upon a reliable postal service.
“Even my own office has noticed that the mail service between Penzance and London is generally less reliable now than it was before the removal of the mail train.”
Mr George has raised his concerns with Royal Mail and is urging constituents to write to him about their experiences.
