As summer gets ever closer the local police have told Scilly News that the honesty on the islands is “refreshing.”
They were talking about lost property on Scilly.
PC Steve Hardy said that as more tourists came to the islands the more lost property gets handed in.
“We get an enormous amount of stuff-digital cameras, cases, binoculars, cash wallets and clothes. But most people are reunited with their belongings. It is amazing that people are so honest.”
According to the police the problem is particularly bad on the off islands.
Sgt Tom Holmes added: “Any left over lost property gets sent to Camborne at the end of the year when it is auctioned for charity but there really isn’t that much.”
Anyone who has lost or found an item should contact the Police on 01720 422444. If you have lost an item on the off islands you should still bring it to the police station.
