Hundreds of visitors gathered at the Town Hall on Monday to get books signed by author Michael Morpurgo.

The Children’s Laureate is a regular visitor to Scilly.

He has set numerous books on the islands including “Why the Whales Came” which was made into a film and “The Wreck of the Zanzibar.”

There were so many queuing up that some visitors went home with unsigned copies. Tourism Assistant Jo Legg told Scilly News: “It was jam packed because so many people had turned up. The only disappointment was that some people got turned away. We have already had people coming into the Tourist Information Centre to ask when he will be doing another signing.”

Michael Morpurgo told Scilly News: “It was a lovely event and I hope to do a similar signing in the future.”
