The Isles of Scilly is the UK’s most popular location for tying the knot, new figures have revealed.

Some 61 people marry in every 1,000 on the Islands, says 192.com, the nation’s largest people and business finder.

Through cross-referencing its marriage records with electoral roll data, the site calculated the UK?s ?marriage index? ? the best and worst places for marrying in the British Isles.

Managing Director Keith Marsden said: “With the top location for marriages more than 60 times that of the lowest, it is obvious that where you live does have an impact on your prospects. However, there are some anomalies.

‘In reality, people who live in the Isles of Scilly are probably keen to marry and stay there.”

It’s not surprising that the beautiful surroundings mean more and more people ? both from the Islands and the mainland - are choosing to marry on Scilly.

The second most popular spot for getting married was the City of London (which has a number of beautiful churches but not many residents), followed by Chiltern, West Surrey, North Surrey and Brentwood (Essex).

Remote districts in Wales and the south Midlands had the fewest weddings, with only one person in every 1,000 marrying in some areas.

Jane Hurd, the Islands’ Superintendent Registrar, said: ‘Scilly is such a stunning location that it is not a surprise that so many people want to marry here. It is very easy for anyone living in England and Wales to come to Scilly to marry - and honeymoon!?
